burn up (usually no object): become destroyed / consumed by fire.

Note 1: For people and small, non-stationary, non-upright things only.

"All of Mr. Kennedy's hay burned up when his barn burned down."

Note 2: This phrasal verb is normally used without an object; when there is an object, the phrasal verb is separable.

"If you're looking for that old red shirt, you won't find it. I burned it up."
