ESL Summer Camp Teacher/Activity Leader - New York City, Miami, or Los Angeles
YES USA is Your English School USA. We offer ESL study abroad summer camps for international students visiting NYC, Miami, and Los Angeles.
As an English teacher, you'll deliver 15 hours of engaging ESL lessons per week. Beyond academics, you'll lead off-site excursions to the top attractions in each city, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience.
Housing is available in shared university dorms if required.
Dates and Locations:
St. John’s University (Queens Campus) - June 1st - August 12, 2025
- 6-week contracts available from July 1st (check-in on June 29th, training June 30th).
University of Miami (Coral Gables Campus) - July 7 - August 3, 2025
- 4-week contracts available from July 7th (check-in on July 5th, training July 6th).
Concordia University Irvine - June 29 - August 9, 2025
- 6-week contracts available from June 29th (check-in on June 27th, training June 28th).
- 4-week contracts available from July 13th (check-in on July 11th, training July 12th).
Requirements
- All applicants must hold a bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in TESOL, linguistics, or English.
- ESL teaching certificate, such as Cambridge CELTA or its equivalent.
- Prior ESL experience of teaching teenagers.
- Native fluency in English.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.

An ideal candidate possesses the following qualities:
- Establishes strong rapport with teenagers through effective communication
- Exhibits genuine interest in other cultures and willingly shares personal experiences
- Displays a fun and outgoing personality to foster an engaging environment
- Demonstrates a sense of responsibility and authority when dealing with students
- Possesses a proactive approach to researching and learning about the city to enrich students' understanding
- Effectively navigates the city with a group of teenagers, showcasing effective leadership
- A good sense of direction and a strong knowledge of the city and its surroundings, including the public transportation system, are required.
- Remains calm under pressure and maintains a positive attitude during challenges and emergencies
- Adapts well to change, showing flexibility in various situations
- Commits to working extended hours, including weekends and holidays, to ensure program success.
Staff Training
- Virtual Training- A training session via Zoom will be announced prior to the start of camp.
- In-Person Training- YES USA offers on-site training one day prior to your employment start date with housing available for residential staff. A $100 bonus will be given upon successful completion of the contract to staff who participate in the in-person training.

Hours
- Candidates must be willing to work long hours on days scheduled for leading excursions, which typically conclude around 10:00 pm.
- Excursions on non-study days could begin as early as 10:30am and end at 10:00pm.
- Excursions on study days could begin as early as 1:30pm and end at 10:00pm.
- Working 6 days per week with a minimum commitment of 43.5 hours:
- 15 hours of teaching per week
- 28.5 hours of excursions per week (three excursions per week). Exception: Miami (residential) → 37 hours per week (four excursions per week).
Compensation and Benefits
- Residential: $546 - $775 per week. Housing provided in shared on-campus dormitories.
- Commuter: $715 - $918 per week.
